General Considerations

  • primary ureteral tumors are very rare in animals and usually occur secondary to neoplastic disease of the kidney, bladder, or retroperitoneal space
  • malignant ureteral tumors include TCC, leiomyosarcoma, and MCT
  • benign ureteral tumors include fibropapilloma, papilloma, leiomyoma, and fibroepithelial polyps

Treatment

  • segmental ureterectomy can be attempted for benign lesions
  • nephroureterectomy is the preferred treatment for malignant ureteral tumors
