The VSSO has three levels of Membership, depending on your level of training.
Full Members are veterinary surgeons who have completed both a 3-year residency in small animal surgery and a 1-year post-residency fellowship in surgical oncology. To maintain full membership status, Full Members must participate in VSSO clinical research trials within a 3-year period.
For candidates that do not qualify for Full Membership but wish to apply for Full Membership, please write to the VSSO President, stating the reasons why you should be considered for Full Membership. The Executive Committee will review and vote on whether to accept the application. The candidate will be accepted with a majority vote. As an example, previous alternative Full Members include a board-certified medical oncologist who had also completed an ACVS-approved small animal surgery residency training program.
Associate Members are veterinary surgeons who are board-certified veterinary surgeons (Diplomate ACVS, Diplomate ECVS, FACVSc, etc) with an interest in surgical oncology, but who have not completed a 1-year post-residency fellowship in surgical oncology; or Full Members who have not contributed to clinical research trials within a 3-year period. Associate members are encouraged to participate in VSSO clinical research trials.
Affiliate Members are veterinary students, graduate students, house officers, and non-board-certified veterinarians with an interest in surgical oncology.
